Our signature package of the Guianas offers a great combination of these unique countries. Visiting the three historical capital cities in one vacation will give you a sneak peek of what these diverse countries offer. We have included one overnight in the maroon community to just do have that extra unique experience.
Day 1: Arrival in Georgetown, Guyana
After you arrive in Georgetown, you will meet your guide and be transferred to your hotel in the city. The rest of the day you can acclimatize and enjoy the city for yourself.
Day 2: Georgetown City Tour
This morning you will go on a tour through the colonial city of Georgetown, a city that is kept dry by dykes and polders, because it lies six feet below sea level. You will be amazed by the colonial era architecture and you will be introduced to the Guyanese capital by visiting the highlights of the city. Just to mention some; The biggest and highest wooden cathedral, botanical gardens, Yuma nama hut, seawall and the national museum. The same afternoon you will have a 50 minute flight from Ogle airport to the Kaieteur nature park and Kaieteur waterfalls of 740ft. The highest single drop fall. After a 2 hours ground time at the falls you will return to the city and transfer to the international airport for your flight to Suriname.
In Suriname you will meet the local guide and he will transfer you to the hotel in Paramaribo. (B)
Day 3: Maroon culture in the jungle
This morning you will be transferred to the interior and last stop of the road where you have to shift from car to boat and continue your journey. You will experience jungle, boating and maroon culture. After a canoe ride over the Suriname River you will arrive at the river lodge where you will spend the night in comfort. A walk in the local village and learn about the authentic way of living as well the village structure will be also one of the highlights of today. (B/L/D)
Day 4: Jungle walk and village life
After breakfast you will head into the jungle with one of the local guides. He will introduce you to the “pharmacy” of the locals as well as a lot of benefits of the jungle. When back at the lodge we will have lunch and depart back to Paramaribo city and overnight in our 1st night hotel. (B/L)
Day 5: Paramaribo – Cayenne
This morning you will have an overland transfer to French Guiana.
Just after the border facilities we will visit the transportation camp, locally known as “Banjo”. This was the first stop for prisoners from France to French Guiana. Very impressive is the jail of Papillion. After this tour we will head to Cayenne city. Once again, you will find a completely different look as French architecture becomes the norm. The history of these three countries is woven tightly, and as you complete the journey through them, you will begin to see how these curious and remote countries. After tour check in hotel for overnight. (B)
Day 6: A Trip to Devil’s Island
You will be picked up in the morning and be driven to Kourou. From here there will be a day trip by catamaran to the Iles du Salut. These islands, the feared heart of the French penal colony, are a very interesting experience. You will visit two of the three islands, were prisoners were kept for years in solitary confinement and complete silence and also see Devil’s Island, the most infamous one of the three. Unfortunately, you cannot visit Devil’s Island. Your will return to Cayenne in the evening after visiting Royal and st. Joseph island. Check in and overnight Kourou.
Day 7: The Ariane space center
At 8 am we have to check in with our passports for a sight seeing on the launch pads as well the monitoring room of this Space center. The attached small museum is also worthwhile a visit. Total tour tine will be around 3 hours. An important note is that even the tour is confirmed it can still be canceled at any moment without any reason. The day activity will be continued with a return transfer to Paramaribo, Suriname. (B)
Day 8: Paramaribo and wildlife spotting
Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname is on schedule for today. You will meet your guide in the hotel lobby. A city tour through the historical capital and visit some of the UNESCO heritage sites and enjoy the fine and interesting 19th century wooden buildings.Also on schedule are the waterfront, the Independence Square, the beautiful and impressive Palm Garden, local market and the synagoge right beside a mosque which represents the cultural harmony of this colorful country. We will continu visiting an old Coffie plantation, where nature has taken over and become now a nature park. Here we have big change to spot wildlife. The last activity of today is a sunset tour on the Suriname River where we will spot pink belly dolphins from a local tent boat. (B/L)
Day 9: Depart Suriname flight onwards….
Depending on your flight we will transfer you to the Johan Adolf Pengel international airport
