Experience a combination of pristine rainforest and tour activities on the nature sites, amerindian villages in Guyana living in the Rupununi savannah, maroon villages along the Suriname rivier in the jungle and a mix of British and Dutch history during the tour thru Guyana and Suriname.

 

Day 1.  Georgetown, Guyana.

Arrive in Guyana where you will have a meet and greet with your guide at the airport and be transferred to Georgetown city, the capital of Guyana with its unique Caribbean feel. Check in hotel.

 

Day 2.  Kaieteur falls

Today we will visit the highest and most impressive single drop waterfall in the world of 227m. What makes this fall very special is that it has everything that a powerful waterfall needs such as enormous height, a large width and a large water volume.

 

Day 3. Karanambu lodge

In the morning we will take a flight to the Rupununi savannah and transfer to Karanambu jungle lodge where we will take a boat out on the river to witness the giant river otters and some other species of wildlife. We end our activities for the day with a boat ride to the amazing giant Amazonica Regis water lily. On the boat ride back you will see the black caiman and other night species of wild life.

 

Day 4. Karanambu lodge

Morning travel to the home of giant anteaters located in a rolling grassland savannas area with the hopes of seeing extraordinary  creatures. You can also see the beautiful birds and visit the airstrip to see nightjars. Overnight at Karanambu Lodge.

 

Day 5. Surama

With a boat journey along the Rupununi river reaching Ginep Landing  and forward by vehicle, we will visit the Amerindian village of Surama, a small Makushi village on the savannah with inhabitants still relying on the jungle  for their livelihood and following time-honored traditions. To learn about the local way of life and discover the surrounding forest you will be accompanied by a guide. Overnight in the basic accommodation at Surama Eco Lodge.

 

Day 6. Surama Mountain

Morning walk across the savannah and climb the Surama mountain and do a soft hike of three miles to the Buro Buro river for a canoe trip in the hopes of spoting giant river otters, spider monkeys, tapir and other wildlife. Overnight in the basic accommodation at Surama Eco Lodge.

 

Day 7. Iwokrama

0n this day you will visit Iwokrama rainforest research center. This research center offers overnights for students groups, tourist and researchers. In this diverse rainforest where you will have the best chance of seeing a jaguar and the Guianas Cock-of-the-Rock Guyana’s most remarkable birds. Also visit the Iwokrama canopy walkway for a different perspective of the forest. The overnight will be at Atta Rainforest Lodge.

Day 8. Georgetown

After the canopy walkway experience you will be transferred by 4WD vehicle along one of the best trails in the hopes of seeing Jaguar and other creatures which are difficult to track down. Later you will be transferred to the airstrip at Lethem for your flight back to Georgetown for a city tour. Overnight on George Town hotel.

 

Day 9. Paramaribo

On this day you will be transferred to the local airport for flight to Paramaribo that is UNESCO world heritage site. A walking city tour to witness the historical buildings  with beautiful architecture and interesting markets. You will take a boat-trip in the afternoon on the Suriname river to see the pink belly dolphins. Overnight at Eco Resort.

 

Day 10. Maroon culture and jungle experience

Today you will visit a maroon village on one of the islands in the middle of the rainforest. You will travel by road to Atjoni and forward by boat (canoe) to the maroon village to overnight in a River Lodge. After arriving in this beautiful village you can take a dip in the running river water, relax and have a natural

Massage. Later in the evening we will search for caiman on the river. Overnight at the River Lodge.

 

Day 11. Local community

On this day you will pay a visit to one of the many villages along the Suriname river and learn about the culture and their daily habits. Take a forest walk in the afternoon to learn about the traditional medicinal uses of the plants in this village. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at the River Lodge.

 

Day 12. Paramaribo

The morning you have free to experience the jungle on your own, exchange with the locals and after lunch return to Paramaribo. Overnight in hotel Paramaribo.

 

Day 13. Commewijne plantations

Today we visit the Commewijne former colonial plantations Marienburg, Peperpot and Frederiksdorp. The time looks like it has stops since the slavery period. The historical buildings, water tanks, sugarcane bowls all are still there. Your day will filled by plantation history and sightseeing of Commewijne district. Overnight in hotel Paramaribo.

 

Day 14. Day of departure

On this day you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
